Memoir Writing Workshop: July 22-26 Red Deer College
I will be giving a memoir writing workshop at Red Deer College in Alberta July 22 – 26.
A program put on by their Summer Art School
“Write for your Life”
Recently writers have rediscovered the magic of memoirs. Writers everywhere are telling their stories in a fantastic mixture of styles. As we identify the world around us — Children, the aging, the dog in autumn, the fish leaping into the boat, the car that won’t start — we can relate to all these things through the art of storytelling. Whether you are writing a memoir (non-fiction or fictionalized) for the public record, family heirloom, or your own pleasure, you will find this workshop invaluable. We will show you how to tell your story through new and creative ways of seeing things, finding adventure in a mere object like a coffee mug, exploring who made you or who you may have lost; stories that need to be told and histories that must be remembered. There are tales all around us and they can be told in untold ways. We only need the freedom to express them.
This is your opportunity to learn to tell that story in a variety of forms, either in poetry or prose, or by combining both. Brian has been telling his story in many forms, voices, and performances for most of his life and has much to share in this most personal of genres.
